The SECO 17003628 is a single-end square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding shop environments. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN for heat resistance, it handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temp alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. The tool features a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 4.125-inch length of cut, and a 7-inch overall length. With 5 spiral flutes and a 45-degree helix angle, it delivers smooth chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool with a straight 1-inch shank. It belongs to the SECO S545 series and is centercutting-capable, allowing plunge entry.
This end mill is suited for milling operations in job shops, tool rooms, and production machining environments where hard-to-machine materials are common. The regular-length geometry and 5-flute configuration make it well-suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel and stainless steel workpieces. It is also rated for use on high-temp alloys and hardened materials, making it a practical choice for aerospace, die-and-mold, and general industrial machining applications. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist coolant delivery is standard practice.
Designed as an OEM-specification solid carbide end mill within the SECO S545 series, compatible with standard 1-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic chucks used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills accepting a 1-inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tool crib technician using an appropriate end mill holder or collet chuck rated for the 1-inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle and holder are clean and free of debris before seating the tool. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before cutting; maximum TIR is 0.0005 inches per specification. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and cutting tool guidelines for feed rates, speeds, and depth of cut appropriate to the workpiece material.
