The SECO 17003617 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding shop environments. Part of the Series S545 long-length lineup, it features a 5/8-inch cutting diameter, a 2-1/2-inch length of cut, and a 5-inch overall length on a 5/8-inch straight shank. The five-flute geometry paired with a 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlTiN coating extends tool life when working in elevated-heat applications. This tool is used by machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace production, and general metalworking facilities.
The 17003617 is engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. The long length of cut makes it suitable for applications requiring deep-pocket milling or extended-reach work where a standard-length end mill cannot reach the full feature depth. The centercutting design supports both plunge and peripheral milling operations without a pre-drilled entry hole. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional CNC machining center setups.
Designed for use in standard CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 5/8-inch straight shank. Suitable for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials per SECO Series S545 application guidelines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Secure the shank fully into a collet or end mill holder to the manufacturer-recommended grip length before tightening. Verify tool runout does not exceed the 0.0005-inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing or inspecting tooling.
