The SECO 17003172 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It features a 3/4 inch cutting diameter, a 4 inch length of cut, and a 45-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation in soft and gummy materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides hardness and edge retention without coatings, keeping the cutting edge sharp on materials where built-up edge is a concern. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can plunge as well as peripheral mill. Machinists and CNC operators running aluminum, brass, copper, or similar non-ferrous alloys will find this tool suited to finish and semi-finish passes at aggressive feeds.
The 17003172 belongs to SECO Series A345 and is configured for right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes, a straight shank, and regular length geometry. It fits standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, or hydraulic toolholders accepting a 3/4 inch straight shank. The 6.5 inch overall length provides moderate reach for workpieces requiring tool clearance beyond a standard stub-length end mill without sacrificing rigidity. Typical applications include pocket milling, slotting, contouring, and profiling operations on aluminum plate, extrusions, castings, and bar stock in job shop and production CNC environments.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with toolholders accepting a 3/4 inch straight shank. Primary workpiece material compatibility is aluminum and non-ferrous materials (material code N). Series A345.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool from its holder. Seat the shank to the recommended gauge-line depth in the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention system per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify tool runout does not exceed the 0.0005 inch TIR maximum before starting the cut.
