The SECO 17003147 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metals. It features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/4-inch length of cut, and a 3-1/2-inch overall length, placing it in the long-series category for extended-reach applications. The three-flute geometry with a 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action in softer, gummy materials. Micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and wear resistance needed to hold tight tolerances in production and job-shop environments. This is a centercutting, single-end tool with right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation.
The 17003147 is suited for milling operations in aluminum, brass, copper, plastics, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where a sharp, bright-uncoated carbide tool outperforms coated options by reducing built-up edge. The long flute length relative to the diameter makes it appropriate for slotting, profiling, and pocket milling where additional axial depth is required. It accepts a standard straight-shank toolholder with a 5/16-inch bore. Typical users include CNC machinists and mold-and-die shops running multi-axis machining centers or vertical mills.
Designed as a Series A345 replacement-style tool for standard 5/16-inch straight-shank toolholders used in CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills cutting aluminum and non-ferrous materials.
Installation requires a compatible 5/16-inch collet or end mill holder; ensure the holder bore and shank tolerances are within spec before tightening. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool. Inspect the tool edge for chips or damage before each setup, as solid carbide is brittle and should not be used in interrupted cuts beyond its rated application. Verify spindle runout does not exceed the stated TIR maximum of 0.0005 inches to protect edge integrity and part tolerance.
