The SECO 17002976 is a single-end square end mill designed for material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers consistent edge geometry and dimensional stability under cutting loads. The tool features a 45-degree helix angle and a bright uncoated finish, making it well suited for aluminum alloys and other non-ferrous materials where coating buildup or galling can be a concern. With a 0.5-inch mill diameter, 0.625-inch length of cut, and 3-inch overall length, this stub-length end mill fits standard tool holders used in CNC milling and manual knee mills. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is intended for cutting aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials coded N in the ISO material classification system. The stub length and straight shank configuration make it appropriate for applications requiring rigidity in short-reach setups. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, expanding its use to slotting, pocketing, and profile milling operations. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry are standard for conventional CNC spindle configurations. The spiral flute design promotes chip evacuation, which is critical when cutting soft, gummy non-ferrous materials.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.5-inch straight shank, within the SECO Series A245 end mill family.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool holder secured before inserting or removing the end mill. Use a calibrated tool-holding system and verify runout against the TIR specification before cutting. Follow shop-standard speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and verify tool overhang does not exceed the stub-length capacity of the setup.
