The SECO 17002207 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals. It carries a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 0.625-inch length of cut, and a 0.0200-inch corner radius, making it well suited for both roughing and finishing passes where edge integrity and tight tolerances are required. The TiCN (titanium carbonitride) PVD coating extends tool life and reduces built-up edge when cutting aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials. With a 40-degree high helix angle and three right-hand spiral flutes, the tool promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes in high-feed applications. It is installed by machinists and CNC programmers in toolholders as part of standard milling setups.
This end mill is sized for use in vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as CNC knee mills where a straight-cylindrical 0.5-inch shank is accommodated. The Series AN340 designation places it in a short-length, extended-reach geometry with a 2.125-inch reach length and a 0.480-inch neck diameter, giving clearance in pocketing and contouring operations without sacrificing rigidity. It is primarily applied to non-ferrous metal workpieces (material code N) in production and job-shop environments. The single-end, centercutting design allows plunge entry and full-slot milling without a pre-drilled pilot hole.

This tool is installed and changed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before tool changes, confirm the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in a safe state per the machine tool manufacturer procedures. Secure the shank in the toolholder to the torque specified by the toolholder manufacturer and verify runout against the 0.0005-inch maximum TIR spec before cutting. Do not use this end mill on ferrous or hardened steel workpieces, as the TiCN coating and non-ferrous material designation indicate it is not optimized for those applications.
