The SECO 17000018 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous machining applications. This single-end, center-cutting tool features a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 45-degree helix angle, and a 3-flute spiral configuration with right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction. The micrograin carbide substrate provides edge strength and wear resistance suited to demanding production environments. At 4 inches overall length with a 2.125-inch reach length, this is a long-reach end mill appropriate for pockets, slots, and profiles that require extended tool engagement.
The 17000018 is part of the SECO AN345 series, targeted at machinists and CNC programmers working primarily in aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous materials. The 0.625-inch length of cut combined with the extended reach makes it well suited for cavity milling, deep slotting, and multi-axis contouring where standard-length tools cannot access the workpiece. The bright uncoated finish is compatible with flood coolant or mist setups, though this tool does not feature through-coolant capability. It ships as a single-end tool ready for immediate use in collet or end-mill holder setups.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank collet chucks and end-mill holders accepting a 0.5-inch shank. Primary workpiece materials are aluminum and non-ferrous alloys per SECO material code N. Part of the SECO AN345 long-reach series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before tool changes. Seat the 0.5-inch straight shank to the recommended engagement depth in the collet or holder to minimize overhang-related deflection, particularly given the extended reach length. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cutting; maximum TIR for this tool is 0.0005 inches.
