The SECO 10070656 is a CNMG432-MF5 series indexable turning insert rated for hard materials and cast iron machining. Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied TiCN and Al2O3 Duratomic coating, this insert delivers heat and wear resistance in demanding cutting environments. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a negative rake geometry, chamfered and honed cutting edge, and an MF5 chip breaker designed for finishing to medium cuts. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it provides extended value in production turning, boring, and facing operations. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the primary users of this insert type.
This insert is suited for turning, boring, and facing operations on hard materials and cast iron in both production and job-shop environments. Its negative rake and MF5 chip breaker geometry make it appropriate for applications where edge stability and consistent chip control are required. The CNMG432-MF5 geometry follows ANSI and ISO standards, with the ISO designation CNMG120408-MF5, making it interchangeable with toolholders designed for that insert pocket style. Typical applications include finishing passes and medium-depth cuts on hardened steels, chilled cast iron, and similar difficult-to-machine workpieces.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for CNMG120408-MF5 insert geometry, making it a direct fit in toolholders specifying that pocket configuration. Material grades H10 and H15 indicate suitability for hard material and cast iron workpiece applications.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine fully stopped and energy locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Seat the insert firmly against all pocket surfaces and torque the clamping screw per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge. Do not use a damaged or cracked insert pocket, as this will compromise edge location and can cause insert fracture under load.
