The SECO 03309546 is a CNMG431-M3 series indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and coated with a multilayer TiAlN and TiN PVD coating under the CP500 manufacturer grade designation. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 17 degrees. With a 0.5079-inch insert length, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0157-inch corner radius, this insert is engineered for precision metal removal in demanding cutting applications. It is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC turning specialists working with precision turning toolholders.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations. Its primary target workpiece material is stainless steel, with secondary suitability for steel, cast iron, super-alloys, and titanium. The M3 chip breaker geometry is designed to manage chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. The maximum depth of cut is 0.4921 inches. This insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation CNMG120404-M3, making it a standard-profile replacement in shops running metric or inch-based tooling programs.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 431 insert size with clamp, pin, or lever lock retention. Industry standard number CNMG431-M3 and ISO designation CNMG120404-M3 allow direct cross-reference to compatible toolholder systems built to ANSI and ISO insert seating standards.
Indexable inserts are installed and indexed by machinists and CNC turning operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque tool or insert screw driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing clamp or lever lock retention hardware. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or wear before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge registration.
