The SECO 03280013 is a CNMG431-M3 series indexable turning insert designed for metal cutting operations in CNC lathes and turning centers. It is manufactured from solid carbide and carries a multilayer CVD coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, corresponding to the TP25 manufacturer grade. The 80-degree diamond shape (CNMG insert style) provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited for general-purpose turning. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.5079 inch insert length, and a 0.0157 inch corner radius, this insert delivers consistent performance in medium to heavy stock removal. It is installed by machinists and CNC setup technicians working in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for primary use on steel (ISO P20, P30, P35 material grades) and is also rated for secondary application on stainless steel and cast iron. Multi-use applications include boring, facing, and turning. The negative rake geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style improves edge strength and reduces chipping when cutting harder or interrupted surfaces. The M3 chip breaker geometry supports reliable chip control across a range of feed rates and depths. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.4921 inches, making it effective for both roughing and semi-finishing passes.
Designed for use in CNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, 80-degree diamond insert with a hole diameter of 0.2028 inches. Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down the machine and engage the spindle lock before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not substitute fasteners. Verify insert seating and clamping security before resuming cuts, and confirm that depth-of-cut and feed rate settings remain within the insert's rated operating range.
