The SECO 03275988 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMP-MF1 series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch (0.0157 inch) corner radius. With a negative rake angle of 18 degrees and a honed cutting edge, it delivers controlled chip formation through the MF1 chip breaker geometry. Four cutting edges are available per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost. This insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
This insert is rated for boring, facing, and turning operations. Its primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO material group M), with steel (group P) as the secondary application. Material grades M30 and M40 apply. The MF1 chip breaker geometry is suited for light to medium finishing cuts where controlled chip evacuation is critical. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with both right- and left-hand toolholders designed for CNMP-style inserts. ISO equivalent designation is CNMG120404-MF1.
Designed for use in CNMP-style toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thick diamond insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. ISO equivalent CNMG120404-MF1 toolholders with clearance code N and tolerance code M apply. Verify toolholder specifications before installation.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-recommended fastener for the toolholder clamping system. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before each insert change to ensure proper seating and edge integrity.
