The SECO 03273980 is a VNMG332-MF4 series indexable turning insert designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual lathes. It is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, targeting the material grades M15, M20, and M25. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (Shape Code V), a neutral hand orientation, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches. The MF4 chip breaker geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge supports controlled chip formation during medium finishing operations. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and tooling technicians in production turning applications.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, profiling, and back turning operations. Its primary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO Code M), with secondary applicability on steel (ISO Code P). The negative rake and 30-degree rake angle make it appropriate for stable, rigid toolholding setups. It provides up to 0.576 inches maximum depth of cut and is compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock insert holding methods. This insert is typically used in industrial production environments where consistent surface finish and tool life on difficult-to-machine alloys are required.
Designed for use in VNMG-style toolholders that accept a 35-degree diamond insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. Industry standard number VNMG332-MF4 and ISO code VNMG160408-MF4 apply. Suitable for multi-use applications including back turning, facing, profiling, and turning on stainless steel and steel workpieces.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Shut down the machine and de-energize all axis drives before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten clamping screws, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Verify insert seating and edge condition before resuming cuts.
