The SECO 03273921 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG543-M5 configuration, designed for use in CNC turning, boring, and facing operations. It features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN plus Al2O3 plus Cr — engineered to deliver a balance of wear resistance and toughness across a wide range of cutting conditions. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry, and the M5 chip breaker is optimized for roughing and medium machining passes. With four available cutting edges per insert, this tooling offers extended useful life per unit. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals install this insert in appropriate CNMG-style toolholders.
This insert is suited for machining stainless steel as its primary workpiece material (ISO material group M) and steel as its secondary application (ISO material group P). The TM2501 grade targets high-toughness requirements on stainless steel and moderate to high toughness demands on steel, making it a practical choice for shops running interrupted cuts, variable-depth passes, or mixed-material production runs. Typical applications include external turning, internal boring, and facing operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholder setups.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 5/8-inch inscribed circle insert with negative rake and negative side clearance. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock insert holding methods. Suitable for multi-use applications including boring, facing, and turning. Verify toolholder seat dimensions and clamping method before installation.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully on the toolholder pocket to ensure proper support across the full insert face; an improperly seated insert can fracture under load. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and inspect the pocket and clamp for wear before installing a new insert.
