The SECO 03272916 is a solid carbide trigon milling insert in the XNEX-08 series, manufactured to grade MP2501 with a CVD-applied Duratomic TiCN and Al2O3 multilayer coating. The insert follows an XNEX style with a double-sided, right-hand configuration and a negative rake geometry with a 17-degree rake angle and a T-Land cutting edge style featuring the MD15 chip breaker. Six cutting edges are available per insert. With a maximum depth of cut of 0.2953 inches and a corner radius of 0.0315 inches, this insert is designed for productive milling passes on steel and stainless steel as its primary workpiece materials. It is sized to the 080608 insert size code with an inscribed circle of 0.4913 inches and a thickness of 0.2539 inches.
This insert is intended for use in milling operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium in both production and maintenance machining environments. It is held in the cutter body by screw-type clamping and is compatible with the R217.96-08 and R220.96-08 cutter series as specified by the manufacturer. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and general-purpose material removal where consistent edge life and thermal wear resistance are required. The CVD Duratomic coating process provides a hard, smooth surface layer suited to high-speed cutting conditions on ferrous and exotic workpiece materials.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the cutter body specification. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before loading a new insert to ensure proper seating and avoid edge chipping on first contact.
