The SECO 03272903 is a solid carbide trigon milling insert carrying the manufacturer part designation XNEX040308TR-M08 in grade MP2501. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 layers, delivering wear resistance suited to interrupted and continuous milling operations. With six cutting edges on a double-sided body and a negative rake geometry with a 27-degree rake angle, the insert maximizes tool life per index. A 1/32-inch corner radius and T-Land cutting edge style control edge strength and chip formation across a maximum depth of cut of 0.1575 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC mill operators install this insert in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered for primary use in steel milling applications and carries secondary ratings for stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It is suited to face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed operations where consistent chip control and extended tool life are priorities. The M08 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth passes in both roughing and semi-finishing contexts. Compatible cutter bodies are the R217-96-04 and R220.96-04 series. The screw-holding method and right-hand cutting orientation are consistent with standard XNEX-04 series toolholders used on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Compatible cutter bodies include the R217-96-04 and R220.96-04 series. This insert follows ISO standard geometry code XNEX040308TR-M08 and fits toolholders designed for the XNEX-04 insert series.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct Torx or hex key for the insert clamping screw and seat the insert fully into the pocket before tightening. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or burrs before each index to prevent insert rocking and premature edge failure.
