The SECO 03272679 is a solid carbide trigon milling insert in the 218.19-160 series, grade MP2501, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding milling applications. It features a CVD-applied Duratomic coating combining TiCN and Al2O3 layers for wear resistance and thermal stability. The insert carries a positive rake angle of 10 degrees, a T-Land cutting edge style, and a 12-degree relief angle, producing clean, efficient cuts with reduced cutting forces. With three usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers consistent tool life across production runs. This insert is suited for machinists and toolroom professionals running milling operations on CNC machining centers and milling machines.
This insert is intended for milling steel as its primary workpiece material, with secondary application suitability for stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. The M08 chip breaker geometry supports general-purpose milling across these material groups. It fits single-sided into compatible cutter bodies and is held in place by a screw clamping method. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and profile milling operations in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in SECO cutter series R217.21 and R220.21-R160 milling cutter bodies. ANSI and ISO code 218.19-160T-04-M08 applies. Verify cutter body pocket specifications before installation to confirm proper seating and screw engagement.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians — ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before indexing or replacing inserts. Clean the insert pocket and seating surfaces before placing the new insert to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the cutter body recommendation; do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Dispose of worn inserts according to local regulations for carbide tooling waste.
