The SECO 03096572 is a TNMG431-M5 triangular carbide turning insert in manufacturer grade TP3501, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to extend tool life when cutting steel and stainless steel. The insert carries a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0157-inch corner radius, and a 60-degree included angle with a negative rake geometry. The M5 chip breaker profile and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style make this insert well suited to medium and heavy interrupted or continuous cuts across a range of depths. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert in standard TNMG-compatible toolholders.
This insert is rated for primary use on steel workpiece materials (ISO material code P, grades P20, P30, and P40) and secondary use on stainless steel (ISO code M). Suitable multi-use applications include turning, facing, boring, and back turning. With six cutting edges per insert and a maximum depth of cut of 0.8268 inches, it is effective in both roughing and semi-finishing passes on medium-to-large diameter workpieces in job shop and production environments. Designed for use in TNMG-series toolholders that accept a triangular insert with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 0.2028-inch hole diameter, and clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Indexable carbide inserts are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or CNC tool-setup personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing any insert. Use the correct torque wrench and seating screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or wear before seating a new insert.
