The SECO 03096317 is a CNMG543-M3 indexable turning insert in grade TP3501, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering thermal stability and wear resistance during continuous and interrupted cuts. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and neutral hand provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited to moderate-to-heavy material removal. With four usable cutting edges per insert, this grade targets steel turning applications in the P20, P30, and P40 material grade range. It is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning steel and secondarily for stainless steel, corresponding to ISO workpiece material codes P and M. The M3 chip breaker geometry is optimized for medium-depth passes in boring, facing, and turning operations. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping on entry and improves edge life in steel. The insert seats in CNMG-compatible toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods, making it compatible with a wide range of standard turning tool bodies used in production machining.

Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and seating screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the insert clamp, pin, or lever-lock mechanism. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge alignment.
