The SECO 03094172 is a WNMG432-MF3 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic coating combining TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers. The insert is rated manufacturer grade TP3501 and features an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake geometry. With six available cutting edges and a 1/32-inch (0.0315 inch) corner radius, this insert is designed for productive metal removal on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The MF3 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style support stable chip control in finish to medium turning applications. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades are not the target audience here — this insert is specified and installed by CNC machinists and tool-room technicians.
This insert is suited for general turning, facing, and boring operations on steel (ISO material code P, grades P20, P30, P40) and stainless steel (ISO material code M). The WNMG form factor is compatible with negative-rake toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert holding methods. A 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and 0.6850-inch insert length place this insert in standard size-432 tooling. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.3307 inch, making it appropriate for both light finishing passes and moderate roughing cuts in production turning environments.
Designed for use in WNMG-style negative-rake toolholders accepting size-432 inserts with clamp, pin, or lever-lock clamping. Primary workpiece material is steel (P20, P30, P40); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel. Industry standard number WNMG432-MF3 and ISO code WNMG080408-MF3 can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder seats.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop and all axes locked per shop lockout-tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamping screw or lever to avoid insert rocking and premature edge failure. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for chips, wear, or debris before seating a fresh cutting edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure and torque guidance for the specific holder type in use.
