The SECO 03094161 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG series, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. It carries the industry standard designation TNMG431-MF3 and ISO code TNMG220404-MF3, manufactured to ANSI and ISO tolerances. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating combining TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and thermal resistance. With six cutting edges, a 60-degree triangular shape, and an MF3 chip breaker geometry, it is suited for moderate to heavy material removal rates in steel and stainless steel turning operations. The insert hand is neutral, making it compatible with a wide range of toolholders.
This insert is intended for general-purpose external and internal turning operations including back turning, boring, facing, and standard turning. Its primary workpiece material is steel, with a material grade designation of P20, P30, and P40. Secondary application is stainless steel. It is used in production machining environments where consistent chip control and surface finish are required on ferrous materials. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance shops are the typical end users. The MF3 chip breaker is optimized for light-to-medium feeds, making this insert well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard supply insert for TNMG-series toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle triangular insert with clamp, pin, or lever lock holding. Compatible with applications targeting steel (P20, P30, P40 material grades) and stainless steel workpieces.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque driver for the insert-holding screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating a new insert, as debris in the pocket can cause insert fracture or dimensional error during cutting.
