The SECO 03093943 is a WNMG432-M5 grade TP3501 solid carbide turning insert designed for general-purpose machining of steel and stainless steel. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — that resists wear and thermal deformation at elevated cutting speeds. The 80-degree trigon shape provides a strong, rigid cutting geometry with a negative rake angle and a chamfered and honed edge for consistent chip control. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 1/32-inch corner radius, this insert handles roughing and semi-finishing passes across boring, facing, and turning operations. It carries six usable cutting edges, maximizing cost-per-edge value on the shop floor.
This insert is suited for medium to heavy stock removal on steel workpieces in ISO material groups P20, P30, and P40, as well as secondary use on stainless steel (ISO group M). The M5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for interrupted and continuous cuts where predictable chip evacuation is critical. Typical applications include external and internal turning, face turning, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers operating in production environments. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both left-hand and right-hand toolholders.
Designed for use in WNMG-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding. Compatible with toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO WNMG insert seating standards. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary workpiece material is stainless steel (ISO M).
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following machine tool manufacturer torque and clamping guidelines. Power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut of 0.3307 inches as stated in the specification data.
