The SECO 03093878 is a TNMG331-M3 series triangular carbide turning insert designed for high-performance metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. It carries the TP3501 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch corner radius, and a negative rake geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge. Six usable cutting edges are available per insert, and the M3 chip breaker geometry is suited for moderate feed and depth-of-cut conditions across a wide range of steel and stainless steel workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on CNC and manual lathes processing steel (ISO material group P) and stainless steel (ISO material group M), including P20, P30, and P40 material grades. It is held in toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods and fits standard TNMG-style pockets. The neutral hand designation makes it suitable for right-hand or left-hand applications depending on the toolholder. Typical users include CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in standard TNMG-style toolholders accepting clamp, pin, or lever lock insert holding methods with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece materials are steel (P) and stainless steel (M); material grades P20, P30, and P40 are specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians following standard insert indexing procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the turret or toolpost is fully locked out before seating or indexing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer; do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating each new cutting edge.
