The SECO 03083832 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in the STB440.2 series. It features a 0.5 inch diameter with a 1 inch length of cut, a 4-flute configuration, and a variable helix geometry that helps reduce chatter and improve surface finish. The AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) PVD coating provides thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures. The micrograin carbide substrate delivers edge toughness needed when machining abrasive or hard workpiece materials. This tool is used by machinists and tooling specialists in CNC milling operations where tight tolerances and tool life are both priorities.
This end mill is engineered for primary use on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes M, S, and H). Its short length type and straight cylindrical shank suit it for rigid setups in vertical or horizontal CNC machining centers. The single-end, right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it a standard configuration for conventional and climb milling passes. It is suited to both roughing and finishing operations, eliminating the need to change tools between passes in many applications.

Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle fully stopped and the machine placed in a safe, locked-out state. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder rated for 0.5 inch shanks and verify runout does not exceed the 0.0005 inch TIR maximum before beginning a cut. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures for tool clamping torque. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before each use, particularly after hard-material applications.
