The SECO 03083824 is a 4-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in demanding materials including stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It features a 1/8 inch cutting diameter with a 1/4 inch length of cut and a 1-1/2 inch overall length. The micrograin carbide substrate is coated with AlTiN via a PVD process, providing thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures. A variable helix geometry at 40 degrees reduces harmonic vibration and improves surface finish consistency. This tool is center-cutting and single-end, suited for slotting, profiling, and finish passes in high-performance CNC machining applications.
This end mill is intended for CNC machining centers and high-speed machining operations where tool rigidity and coating performance are critical. It is well suited for shops and field machinists working with aerospace alloys, medical-grade stainless, and hardened die steels. The short length type and straight-cylindrical shank make it a practical choice for tight-clearance work and benchtop CNC setups requiring consistent tolerances in the 1/8 inch diameter range. It is part of the SECO STB440.2 series, catalog number STB440.2-0.125-D2-B.0-Z4.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines accepting a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are stainless steel (M), high-temperature alloys (S), and hardened materials (H) per ISO material group classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the tool from the collet or tool holder. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder to achieve the shank diameter tolerance range of -0.0001 to -0.0004 inches for secure seating. Verify TIR does not exceed 0.0005 inches after tool installation to maintain dimensional accuracy and prevent premature edge failure.
