The SECO 03064523 is a CNMG-series indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose metal removal in CNC and manual lathe applications. It features a diamond 80-degree shape with a neutral hand orientation and four usable cutting edges, making it a cost-effective choice for high-volume turning operations. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability. With an inscribed circle of 0.5000 inches and a corner radius of 0.0157 inches, this insert is suited for medium to roughing passes. Licensed machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers will find it straightforward to index and seat using clamp, pin, or lever-lock toolholders.
This insert is engineered primarily for cast iron workpieces, with secondary application capability on steel and stainless steel. It supports boring, facing, and turning operations, making it a versatile option across job shop and production environments. The M5 chip breaker geometry is designed to control chips effectively at moderate feed rates and depths, reducing the likelihood of chip tangling and improving surface finish on medium-depth cuts. Maximum depth of cut is 0.4921 inches. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards, carrying the ISO designation CNMG120404-M5 for global toolholder compatibility.
Designed as an OEM-grade replacement insert for CNMG-series toolholders accepting clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert holding methods. Compatible with toolholders specifying CNMG431 insert geometry per ANSI and ISO standards. Suitable for cast iron as the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for steel and stainless steel.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating a new edge to ensure proper support and prevent premature edge failure.
