Product Description

The SECO 03064488 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in the M5 chip breaker series, designed for general turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a solid carbide substrate with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which delivers high wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a neutral hand orientation, and four usable cutting edges. With a 5/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0630-inch corner radius, it is well suited for medium to roughing-depth passes where consistent edge life matters.

The 03064488 is rated for primary use on cast iron (K-classification) and also performs on steel and stainless steel (P and M classifications) in high-wear-resistance to moderate-wear-resistance and toughness ranges. The M5 chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining operations, making this insert a practical choice for job shops and production floors running mixed material schedules. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.5709 inches. The insert is compatible with toolholders that use clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods, which covers a broad range of standard CNMG turning tool bodies.

Key Features

  • CVD Duratomic multilayer coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended wear life
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape with negative rake and negative side clearance
  • Four cutting edges per insert — maximizes value per piece
  • M5 chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining
  • Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock toolholder styles
  • Meets ANSI and ISO standards; ANSI code CNMG544, ISO code CNMG160616

Compatibility

Designed to fit standard CNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick insert with clamp, pin, or lever-lock retention. Suitable for boring, facing, and turning applications. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; each package contains 1 insert.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician on a powered-down or properly guarded CNC turning center or manual lathe. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before indexing or replacing the insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque procedure for the clamping screw or lever to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Inspect the chip breaker pocket and cutting edge condition at each index interval.
