The SECO 03063858 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT series, designed for high-productivity metal cutting operations. It carries the TK1501 grade designation with a Duratomic CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, a 0.0315-inch corner radius, and two usable cutting edges. The M5 chip breaker geometry produces a chamfered and honed cutting edge suited to moderate chip loads across a range of depths of cut up to 0.3504 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments install this insert in standard CCMT-compatible toolholders.
This insert is rated primarily for cast iron (ISO material group K, grades K10, K20, K30) and is also suitable for steel and stainless steel (ISO groups P and M) in secondary applications. The M5 chip breaker geometry supports boring, facing, and turning operations, making it a versatile single-insert solution on lathes and turning centers where workpiece materials vary across a shift. The positive rake configuration reduces cutting forces, which is advantageous on lower-rigidity setups or when machining thin-walled castings.
Designed for use in screw-clamped CCMT-style toolholders compatible with the CCMT32.52 insert size. Suitable for CNC lathes and turning centers performing boring, facing, and turning on cast iron, steel, and stainless steel workpieces.
Installation is performed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert with the appropriate torx or hex clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping method; do not overtighten. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before installation to ensure full insert contact and accurate tool-nose positioning.
