The SECO 03062816 is a VNMG-style solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the VNMG331-M3 series, this insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and zero-degree relief angle, making it suited for finishing and medium machining operations. The TK1501 grade uses a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, which delivers high wear resistance across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. With four usable cutting edges and a neutral hand orientation, this insert provides consistent performance and cost efficiency per edge for production turning environments. It is installed and managed by machinists, CNC operators, and toolroom technicians.
This insert is applied in back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning operations. The M3 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing to medium material removal rates, handling steel (P), stainless steel (M), and cast iron (K) workpiece materials with high to moderate wear resistance and toughness. The 1/64-inch corner radius and chamfered, honed cutting edge style support surface finish quality and edge stability at typical production feeds and speeds for ISO P, M, and K material groups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production insert for VNMG-style turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter. Conforms to ANSI insert code VNMG331 and ISO insert code VNMG160404.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the lever-lock, pin, or clamp toolholder in use. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating the new insert to ensure proper edge height and runout.
