The SECO 02960914 is a VBMT-series indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the industry-standard designation VBMT333-M3 and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO tolerances under tolerance code M and clearance code B. The insert is made from carbide substrate and features a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, targeting the TP2501 manufacturer grade. With a 35-degree diamond shape, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 3/64-inch corner radius, it is engineered for stable, positive-rake cutting with a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. Two cutting edges are available per insert, and the M3 chip breaker geometry supports consistent chip control across a range of feed rates.
This insert is intended for turning, facing, back turning, and profiling operations in production and job-shop environments. Its primary workpiece material designation is P-grade steel, with secondary ratings for M-grade stainless steel and K-grade cast iron, covering material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35. The insert is well suited for medium to semi-finish passes and performs in both light and moderate depths of cut up to 0.5354 inches. It is a multi-tipped, screw-held insert and is compatible with standard VBMT-style toolholders used on manual and CNC turning equipment. The ISO equivalent designation is VBMT160412-M3.
Designed for use in standard VBMT-style screw-clamp toolholders. Compatible with P-grade steel as the primary workpiece material, and rated for secondary use on M-grade stainless steel and K-grade cast iron. Verify toolholder bore diameter accepts a 0.1772-inch insert hole before indexing.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate — do not overtighten by hand or with standard hex keys without torque control. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
