The SECO 02960907 is a VBMT331-M3 series solid carbide turning insert with a TP1501 manufacturer grade and a multi-layer CVD Duratomic coating consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. It features a 35-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code V) with a neutral hand orientation and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0157 inches (1/64 inch). With 2 cutting edges per insert and an M3 chip breaker geometry, this insert is designed for productive material removal rates across a range of turning applications. It is held in place via a screw-clamp toolholder and carries Tolerance Code M and Clearance Code B per ANSI and ISO standards.
This insert is suited for steel as its primary workpiece material (ISO material code P, grades P10 and P20), with secondary suitability for cast iron (code K) and hard materials (code H). Typical applications include back turning, facing, profiling, and general turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production-floor and job-shop environments. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.6142 inches, making it capable of both roughing and semi-finishing passes depending on feed and speed selection. The Duratomic coating classification is engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability in continuous and interrupted steel-cutting scenarios. Installation is sold in minimum order quantities of 10, with individual package quantity of 1.
Designed for use in screw-clamp toolholders accepting VBMT-style inserts with a 0.1772-inch hole diameter. Compatible with toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO VBMT insert seating standards. Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians using appropriate torx or hex keys to seat the insert screw to toolholder specification. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe indexed position before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque for the insert screw size.
