Product Description

The SECO 02960850 is a CCMT431-M3 series indexable turning insert designed for steel, stainless steel, and cast iron machining. It carries the TP2501 manufacturer grade with a Duratomic CVD coating system combining TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers for extended tool life under continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 1/64-inch (0.0157-inch) corner radius, and a positive rake geometry with a chamfered and honed cutting edge. The M3 chip breaker is suited for medium-range depths of cut and feed rates. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in screw-clamped toolholders for turning, facing, and boring operations.

This insert is rated for primary use on steel (ISO material code P) across material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35. Secondary workpiece materials include stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K). Typical applications include external and internal turning, facing, and boring on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation allows use on both sides of the centerline where toolholder geometry permits. Maximum depth of cut is 0.4921 inches. This is a multi-tipped, multi-use insert with 2 cutting edges per insert.

Key Features

  • Duratomic CVD coating (TiCN, Al2O3, Cr) for wear resistance on steel and cast iron
  • M3 chip breaker geometry optimized for medium turning, facing, and boring passes
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (CCMT style) with positive rake for reduced cutting forces
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style for edge stability and surface finish consistency
  • Screw-clamped holding method compatible with standard CCMT-style toolholders
  • 2 usable cutting edges per insert; neutral hand for flexible toolholder setups

Compatibility

Designed for use in screw-clamped CCMT-style indexable toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. ISO code CCMT120404-M3; industry standard number CCMT431-M3. Suitable for steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secure in the turret. Seat the insert flat against the toolholder pocket and tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for seating integrity before resuming cuts.
