Product Description

The SECO 02960738 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMU-MF5 series, grade TP2501, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The CVD-applied Duratomic coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — delivers wear resistance across a broad range of cutting conditions. With four available cutting edges and a chamfered and honed edge preparation, this insert is suited for productive, repeatable turning in production environments. Machinists and CNC operators working in steel and stainless steel applications are the primary users.

This insert is intended for use in back turning, boring, facing, and general turning operations. Its primary target workpiece material is steel, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. The MF5 chip breaker geometry supports medium finishing to medium roughing passes. Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 indicate a range from light to moderate chip loads, making it adaptable across a variety of production turning scenarios in both job shop and high-volume settings.

Key Features

  • CVD Duratomic coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers for extended tool life
  • 55-degree diamond insert shape with neutral hand — fits standard DNMU-style toolholders
  • Four cutting edges per insert for cost-effective tooling management
  • MF5 chip breaker geometry supports back turning, boring, facing, and turning
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge for improved edge stability on steel and stainless
  • Held by clamp, pin, or lever lock — compatible with multiple toolholder clamping methods

Compatibility

Designed for use in DNMU-style toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 55-degree diamond insert with neutral hand orientation. ISO code DNMU110408-MF5 and industry standard number DNMU332-MF5 apply. Clamping methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards.

Installation Notes

Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before installing the insert. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque guidance and do not overtighten lever lock or clamp screws.
