The SECO 02960544 is a CNMG643-M5 series indexable turning insert designed for metal cutting operations in steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It carries the TP2501 grade designation with a Duratomic CVD coating system consisting of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr layers for extended wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The insert features a negative rake geometry, an 80-degree diamond shape, a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 3/64 inch (0.0472 inch). Four cutting edges per insert and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style make this a cost-effective option for high-volume roughing and semi-finishing work. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical technicians aside, this insert is specified and installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
The 02960544 is suited for boring, facing, and turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO material code P), with secondary suitability for stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K). Recommended material grades are P10, P20, P30, and P35, covering a range from light finishing to heavy roughing cuts. The insert is multi-use capable, supporting multiple operations without a toolholder change. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.7126 inch, and the insert length is 0.7598 inch.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard insert for CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 3/4-inch inscribed circle insert. ISO designation CNMG190612-M5. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards. Suitable for toolholders specifying clamp, pin, or lever lock insert retention.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before placing the insert, as debris under the insert seat affects cutting geometry and can damage the pocket. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for clamping screws or levers; do not over-torque.
