The SECO 02960532 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SNMG-MR7 series, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the industry-standard designation SNMG434-MR7 and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO tolerances under the M tolerance and N clearance codes. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability. With 8 cutting edges, a negative rake geometry, and a T-Land cutting edge style, this insert is built for productive, cost-effective turning in steel and related materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production shops are the primary installers.
This insert is suited for boring, facing, and turning operations on steel as the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. The MR7 chip breaker geometry supports a range of depths of cut up to 0.437 inches, making it adaptable across roughing and semi-finishing passes. It is appropriate for both job-shop and production environments where tool change intervals and edge utilization are cost drivers. The 90-degree lead angle and square insert shape (S) allow it to be used in standard SNMG-compatible toolholders secured by clamp, pin, or lever-lock methods.
Designed for use in SNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle square insert with a 3/16-inch thickness and lever-lock, clamp, or pin retention. Material grade ratings of P10, P20, P30, and P35 cover a broad range of steel cutting applications, with secondary suitability for stainless steel (M) and cast iron (K) workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified screw for the lever-lock or clamp system to avoid seat damage or insert fracture. Inspect the insert pocket and shim for wear or debris before seating a new edge.
