The SECO 02960509 is a solid carbide turning insert in the DNMG432-M5 series, designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in demanding metalworking applications. This insert carries the TP2501 grade with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life in steel and stainless steel cuts. The 55-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting geometry, and the M5 chip breaker is tuned for medium-duty turning where chip control is critical. It offers four usable cutting edges per insert, making it an economical choice for production turning environments where insert change frequency matters.
This insert is suited for general turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces. The neutral hand orientation and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style make it appropriate for a wide range of external and internal diameter work. Material grades P10 through P35 cover a broad range of steel cutting conditions. It is a standard fit for shops running medium to high-volume turning operations where consistent surface finish and predictable tool life are required. Installation is typically performed by licensed machinists or CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in DNMG-style insert toolholders that accept a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, neutral hand, and N clearance. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever lock styles per ANSI and ISO toolholder standards.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine fully stopped and power off. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure for clamp, pin, or lever lock systems. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating each new insert. Index or replace the insert when flank wear or surface finish degradation is observed; running a worn insert risks workpiece damage and toolholder seat wear.
