The SECO 02960461 is a CNMG433-MR7 indexable turning insert in grade TP2501, manufactured from solid carbide with a multilayer CVD Duratomic coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with negative rake and neutral hand suits a wide range of turning operations. The insert carries four cutting edges and features a T-Land cutting edge style with the MR7 chip breaker geometry, which is rated for roughing through medium machining passes. Inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.508 inches, and the corner radius is 0.047 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is designed for primary use on steel (P-class, grades P10 through P35) and extends to stainless steel (M-class) and cast iron (K-class) workpiece materials. Suitable applications include external and internal turning, facing, and boring operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The MR7 chip breaker geometry handles both roughing and medium-duty cuts, making the insert a practical choice for production shops running mixed material schedules. Sold individually; minimum order quantity is 10 pieces.
Conforms to ANSI insert code CNMG433 and ISO insert code CNMG120412-MR7, fitting any CNMG-style turning toolholder that accepts negative-rake, clamp-, pin-, or lever-lock-retained inserts. Compatible toolholders must accommodate a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.203-inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece material codes P, M, and K are supported.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC technician with the machine at a full stop and all axes locked out per the machine tool's lockout/tagout procedure. Confirm the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Torque the clamping screw or lever to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not use an impact driver. Inspect the new cutting edge for chipping before resuming the cut.
