Product Description

The SECO 02960435 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations in CNC and manual lathe applications. It carries the industry standard designation TCMT432-M3 and is manufactured to grade TP2501 with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and thermal resistance. The triangular insert geometry provides 3 usable cutting edges, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Relief angle is 7 degrees with a positive rake and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The M3 chip breaker geometry is suited for moderate depth-of-cut finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel and similar materials.

This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on steel as the primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for stainless steel and cast iron. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards, with the ISO equivalent designation TCMT220408-M3. The screw-holding method and standard TCMT pocket geometry make it compatible with a wide range of commercial turning toolholders. It is rated for material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35, covering a broad range of steel cutting conditions from light finishing to moderate roughing.

Key Features

  • CVD Duratomic multilayer coating (TiCN, Al2O3, Cr) for heat resistance and wear life
  • M3 chip breaker geometry for controlled chip formation in steel turning
  • 3 usable cutting edges on a 60-degree triangular insert body
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge for stable entry and reduced notch wear
  • Positive rake geometry reduces cutting forces on the workpiece
  • Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for broad toolholder compatibility

Compatibility

Designed for use in TCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel (P10, P20, P30, P35), stainless steel, and cast iron. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by machining professionals using a torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw in a TCMT-compatible toolholder pocket. Verify the insert seat is clean and free of chips before seating the insert to ensure proper support across the full insert face. Index to a fresh cutting edge or replace the insert when surface finish degrades or cutting forces increase noticeably. Follow machine tool and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for screw torque and insert retention.
