The SECO 02960429 is a solid carbide turning insert in the SCMT-M3 series, designed for precision metal removal in industrial machining applications. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — delivering wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert measures 0.5 inches in both length and inscribed circle diameter, with a 3/16-inch thickness and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Grade TP2501 targets steel as the primary workpiece material. The M3 chip breaker geometry and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge style support stable chip control and edge security across varying feed and depth conditions.
This insert is suited for facing, boring, and turning operations on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron. It fits into SCMT-style toolholders and is appropriate for CNC lathes and turning centers used in production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation allows use in standard right-hand toolholder configurations. With four usable cutting edges per insert and multi-tipped construction, it delivers consistent performance across repetitive production cycles. Machinists working in material grade ranges P10, P20, P30, and P35 will find this insert suitable for both roughing and semi-finishing passes within its rated depth-of-cut envelope.
Designed for use in SCMT-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle square insert with a 0.2205-inch hole diameter and screw-lock clamping. Compatible with multi-use applications including boring, facing, and turning on steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw and verify the insert seats fully and squarely in the pocket before resuming operation. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new edge. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping torque specification for SCMT-style screw-lock inserts.
