The SECO 02960402 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert in grade TP2501, designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning centers and manual lathes. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — engineered to extend tool life and maintain edge integrity at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0157-inch corner radius, and a sharp F1 chip breaker geometry, the 02960402 delivers controlled chip formation across a range of steel and stainless steel applications. It is held in place by screw clamping and offers three usable cutting edges per insert.
This insert is suited for back turning, boring, facing, and general turning operations on steel (ISO P class), stainless steel (ISO M class), and cast iron (ISO K class). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered, making it a versatile option for light-to-medium roughing and finishing passes in production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation fits standard TCMT toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators in metalworking shops are the primary installers of this insert.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production insert for TCMT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO TCMT standards. ISO code TCMT110204-F1 and industry standard number TCMT21.51-F1 apply.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench or insert key to seat the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder pocket and shim for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout control.
