The SECO 02960090 is a solid carbide indexable turning insert in the WNMG series, designed for precision metal removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the industry standard designation WNMG431-MF2 and is produced in manufacturer grade TP1501 with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. The insert features a negative rake geometry, a 0-degree relief angle, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With six usable cutting edges per insert, it delivers a low cost-per-edge profile suited to production environments. Licensed machinists, tool-room operators, and CNC programmers specify this insert for steel and cast iron applications.
This insert is rated for use on steel (ISO material code P, material grades P10 and P20) as primary workpiece material, with secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials (ISO codes K and H). It supports boring, facing, and turning operations, making it a multi-use insert across a range of lathe setups. The MF2 chip breaker geometry targets finishing and light roughing cuts on steel. The insert mounts via clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods, providing flexibility across different toolholder configurations.
Designed for use in WNMG-series toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle trigon insert. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock holding methods per ANSI and ISO standards. Industry standard number WNMG431-MF2; ISO code WNMG080404-MF2.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are free of chips and debris before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw; do not over-torque, as carbide inserts are brittle and susceptible to seating damage.
