The SECO 02960063 is a CNMG434-M3 indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a Duratomic CVD multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Designed for negative-rake, neutral-hand turning operations, it features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 1/16-inch (0.063 inch) corner radius. The insert carries four cutting edges and suits high-productivity applications including boring, facing, and turning on CNC and manual lathes. It conforms to both ANSI and ISO standards and is identified by ISO code CNMG120416-M3. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance environments are the primary users.
This insert is engineered primarily for steel machining (ISO P10/P20 material grades) and also performs on cast iron and hard materials. The M3 chip breaker geometry is suited to a wide range of depths of cut up to 0.445 inch, making it versatile across roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing passes. The chamfered and honed cutting edge style improves edge stability under interrupted and continuous cuts. Compatible holding methods include clamp, pin, and lever-lock toolholders that accept CNMG-style inserts.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert retention. Compatible holding systems must accommodate a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, and a 0.203-inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary materials include cast iron (ISO K) and hard materials (ISO H).
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full stop and locked-out state per applicable safety procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping mechanism for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Torque clamping screws and levers according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not exceed the recommended clamping force. Verify insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder before resuming cuts.
