The SECO 02960040 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG-FF2 series, designed for precision finishing operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It carries the industry-standard designation VNMG330.5-FF2 and is manufactured to the TP1501 grade with a Duratomic CVD coating stack of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for high wear resistance. The insert features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.0079 inches, making it well suited for light finishing passes where surface finish and dimensional control are priorities. This insert is intended for use in CNC lathes and turning centers performing finishing, facing, profiling, and back turning operations. Its FF2 chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing cuts on steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) materials, covering material grades P10 and P20. The negative rake, negative side clearance design provides robust edge support, and four available cutting edges maximize insert utilization. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for damage before each use; do not use a chipped or cracked insert.
