The SECO 02960039 is a solid carbide turning insert in the WNMG432-FF2 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the TP1501 manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, optimized for wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The insert features an 80-degree trigon shape, a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 0.0315 inch corner radius, and a honed cutting edge style. With 6 usable cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, it delivers consistent stock removal across facing, boring, and external turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators handle installation and indexing.
This insert is rated primarily for steel (ISO material code P, grades P10 and P20) and secondarily for cast iron and hard materials (ISO codes K and H). The FF2 chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip formation in medium finishing to semi-roughing passes. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.3307 inches, making it suitable for both finishing and moderate material removal on steel workpieces in production turning environments. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation WNMG080408-FF2, making it cross-referenceable across tooling systems that use standard WNMG geometry inserts.
Designed for use in standard WNMG-style insert pockets accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch insert thickness, and a 0.2028 inch hole diameter. Compatible with toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods. Suitable for boring bars, external turning holders, and facing tools configured for negative-rake WNMG geometry. Primary workpiece material is steel (P10, P20); secondary materials include cast iron and hard materials.
Indexing and insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder type (clamp, pin, or lever lock) to secure the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the cutting edge and chip breaker for seating alignment before resuming operation.
