The SECO 02960018 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC turning applications. It carries the DNMG431-FF2 industry standard designation and is manufactured in the TP1501 grade under SECO Duratomic coating classification. The multi-layer CVD coating stack — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — delivers wear resistance and thermal stability across a range of cutting conditions. The insert features a 55-degree diamond shape with a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 1/64 inch corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. Four available cutting edges make it an economical choice for high-volume production turning.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations in both CNC and manual lathe setups. It is engineered primarily for steel (ISO material code P) with secondary suitability for cast iron and hard materials (ISO codes K and H). The FF2 chip breaker geometry and honed cutting edge style make it appropriate for finishing and semi-finishing passes at controlled depths. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, production, or maintenance machining environments are the typical installers. The maximum depth of cut reaches 0.5945 inches, supporting moderate material removal alongside its finishing capability.
Designed as a direct replacement or equivalent for DNMG431-FF2 toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO standards. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever lock DNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.2028 inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for the toolholder type — clamp, pin, or lever lock — to ensure the insert is fully seated against the pocket walls. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before each insert change to avoid micro-fractures at the cutting edge.
