Product Description

The SECO 02959987 is a solid carbide triangular turning insert in the TNMG-M3 series, designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the industry standard designation TNMG433-M3 and the ISO code TNMG220412-M3. The insert features a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — for thermal resistance and extended tool life. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, a 3/64-inch corner radius, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge, the 02959987 delivers controlled chip formation across a range of depths of cut up to 0.752 inches. It is sold individually but requires a minimum order of 10 pieces.

This insert is suited for back turning, boring, facing, and general turning operations in both roughing and semi-finishing applications. The M3 chip breaker geometry is optimized primarily for steel (ISO P) but also performs on stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Typical material grades supported are P10, P20, P30, and P35. It fits standard TNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods and is installed by machinists and CNC turning technicians in production and job-shop environments.

Key Features

  • CVD Duratomic multilayer coating: TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for wear and heat resistance
  • M3 chip breaker geometry for controlled chip evacuation in steel and stainless turning
  • 6 cutting edges per insert for extended tool life per unit cost
  • Chamfered and honed cutting edge style reduces chipping and promotes edge stability
  • Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock toolholder holding methods
  • Negative rake, neutral hand — fits standard TNMG-style toolholder pockets

Compatibility

Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp, pin, or lever-lock insert retention. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P code: P10, P20, P30, P35); secondary materials include stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards for TNMG insert geometry.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or damage before seating a new insert.
