The SECO 02959984 is a TNMG333-M3 series triangular turning insert manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr. Carrying grade designation TP2501, this insert is engineered for moderate to heavy-duty turning operations on steel and stainless steel. The negative rake geometry, 0-degree relief angle (Clearance Code N), and chamfered-and-honed cutting edge work together to manage heat and mechanical load during interrupted or continuous cuts. Six usable cutting edges per insert keep tooling cost per edge competitive in production environments. Installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians, this insert fits standard TNMG-compatible toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods.
This insert is suited for external turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P), with rated secondary applications in stainless steel (ISO M) and cast iron (ISO K). Material grade classifications P10, P20, P30, and P35 cover a broad range of steel types from finishing to roughing cuts. The M3 chip breaker geometry supports medium-depth cuts and helps maintain chip control across varying feed rates. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.5354 inches, giving the insert flexibility across roughing and semi-finishing passes.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered off and all axes at rest. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and apply clamping force according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not overtighten clamp screws by feel alone, as this can chip the cutting edge. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or debris before installing a new edge or indexing to the next edge. Follow shop-standard lockout and tagout procedures before performing any insert change at the machine.
