The SECO 02959983 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG332-M3 series, designed for precision turning operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. It carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr, assigned manufacturer grade TP2501. The triangular insert geometry provides 6 usable cutting edges with a neutral hand orientation and a 0-degree relief angle (clearance code N). Corner radius measures 0.0315 inches, inscribed circle diameter is 0.3750 inches, and maximum depth of cut reaches 0.5709 inches. The M3 chip breaker geometry delivers a chamfered and honed cutting edge style suited to moderate to heavy roughing and semi-finishing passes.
This insert is intended for machining steel as the primary workpiece material (ISO material code P), with secondary suitability for stainless steel (code M) and cast iron (code K). Material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35 are covered by this grade and coating combination. Applicable operations include turning, facing, boring, and back turning, making it a practical multi-use insert for shops running mixed-material programs. Insert replacement should be performed with the machine spindle locked out and all axis drives disabled per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified seating hardware for clamp, pin, or lever lock toolholders to ensure proper insert seating without over-stressing the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and shim seat for damage or debris before seating a new edge. Verify depth-of-cut and feed rate parameters are within the grade and chip breaker recommendations before resuming cuts.
