The SECO 02959982 is a TNMG331-M3 series triangular turning insert designed for general turning, facing, boring, and back turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It is manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a multilayer Duratomic coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr for extended tool life and thermal resistance. The insert features a negative rake angle, a 60-degree included angle, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. With six usable cutting edges and an M3 chip breaker geometry, this insert is suited for productive material removal in steel and stainless steel applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production environments are the primary users.
This insert is primarily rated for steel (ISO material code P) at material grades P10, P20, P30, and P35, with secondary suitability for stainless steel (code M) and cast iron (code K). The M3 chip breaker geometry supports a broad range of depths of cut up to 0.6102 inches, making it appropriate for medium to roughing passes. It is compatible with insert holding systems using clamp, pin, or lever lock toolholders designed for TNMG-style inserts. The ANSI industry standard number is TNMG331-M3 and the ISO equivalent code is TNMG160404-M3.

Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and locked out per facility LOTO procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and toolholder seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut rating for the selected chip breaker geometry.
