The SECO 02959973 is an SNMG432-M3 turning insert in grade TP2501, engineered for negative-rake, neutral-hand indexable tooling applications. The insert is manufactured from solid carbide and coated via CVD with a multilayer TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr Duratomic coating designed to extend tool life and maintain edge stability under heat. With a 1/2 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thickness, and 1/32 inch corner radius, this square-profile insert provides 8 usable cutting edges. The M3 chip breaker geometry delivers controlled chip formation across a broad feed and depth-of-cut range. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments specify this grade for its performance on ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert is suited for steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material groups P and M and K. It supports multi-use applications including turning, boring, and facing operations. The ANSI and ISO standard form factor makes it compatible with SNMG-style toolholders using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.4685 inches, making it appropriate for moderate to aggressive roughing and semi-finishing passes in both production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in SNMG-style indexable toolholders that accept a 1/2 inch inscribed circle square insert with a 0.2028 inch hole diameter and N clearance, M tolerance designation. Compatible with clamp, pin, and lever-lock holding methods per ANSI and ISO standards. ISO equivalent designation is SNMG120408-M3.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or tool-room technicians using the appropriate SNMG toolholder and a torque wrench or insert key per toolholder manufacturer specifications. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for wear or debris before seating a new insert — a contaminated pocket will cause premature edge failure. Do not mix insert grades or chip breaker styles within the same toolholder without verifying geometry compatibility.
