The SECO 02959969 is a round solid carbide turning insert in the RNMG-M3 series, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a CVD-applied Duratomic multilayer coating — TiCN, Al2O3, and Cr — classified as grade TP1501, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. With a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, an 0.250-inch corner radius, and a full-radius round shape, it delivers 8 usable cutting edges per insert. The M3 chip breaker geometry features a chamfered and honed cutting edge suited for medium-depth steel machining. This is an industry-standard RNMG format insert installed by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
Primary application is turning, facing, and profiling of steel (ISO material group P, grades P10 and P20). Secondary workpiece materials include cast iron and hard materials (ISO groups K and H). The round insert shape and full-radius geometry make it effective for profiling passes and contour turning where a large cutting arc is beneficial. The neutral hand designation means the insert is suitable for both right-hand and left-hand tool holders that accept the RNMG mounting standard. Typical install scenarios include high-volume production turning and job-shop operations running medium carbon and alloy steels.
Designed for use in RNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle round insert with a 0.203-inch hole diameter, using clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods. Compatible with toolholder systems conforming to ANSI and ISO RNMG standards.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Always index or replace inserts with the machine spindle stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket and verify the clamping mechanism — clamp, pin, or lever lock — is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming cuts. Inspect the pocket for chips or debris before seating a new edge to avoid insert rocking or premature breakage.
